Lesson topic and staging

This lesson focuses on transport in London and other big cities. Students discuss transport they use and then brainstorm different kinds of transport. Then they read the text about the efficient means of transport in London and talk about the advantages and disadvantages of the mentioned means of transport. Next, students study vocabulary related to various means of travelling to complete the travel chart. Then students read an article about high-speed railway lines “SHINKANSEN” in Japan. They focus on vocabulary from the text and find synonyms and opposites to the words related to the text. Finally, students discuss problems connected with travelling and get involved in conversation and role plays. They write an essay considering the car explosion impact on life quality.

Objectives

By the end of the lesson, students should have:

 

-         extracted specific information and language items from a reading text

-         extended their range of vocabulary using the reading text as a source

-         talked to another student about the advantages and disadvantages of different means of transport

-         extended their range of vocabulary finding synonyms and antonyms to the words related to the text

-         participated effectively in extended speaking practice

-         written an essay about green travelling
