CITY GREENERY

Lesson topic and staging

This lesson looks at ways of beautification the city and the environment in which we are situated. Students read a text from Daily Mail (British tabloid newspaper) and then find the meaning of the words from the text. Students listen about a brilliant game cricket and decide if the statements are true or false. Then students read a text about Nelson Mandela ´s garden in prison, learn the phrases from the text and answer the questions from the text. Next, students practice speaking, working with a partner and thinking about the changes in Nitra town. Students read a PowerPoint presentation about farming crops for fuel and then present it with their own opinions and ideas.

Objectives

By the end of the lesson, students should have:

- extracted specific information and language items from reading texts and a

  listening exercise

- expanded their range of vocabulary related to city greenery

- expanded their range of phrases connected with the garden

- found and understood the meaning of the words from the text

- discussed the changes in Nitra town

- presented PowerPoint presentation at a conference
