Look at the examples of student paragraphs below. Which one is the best paragraph? Why? Explain why the other paragraphs are not as well written. Do you have suggestions for ways to improve them?

1. My favourite season of the year is spring. It is the time when flowers bloom and the weather gets warm enough to do activities outside. However, I also like winter. My boyfriend and I met in winter, and we enjoy sports like skiing and ice skating. My boyfriend is very handsome and has beautiful big blue eyes. I love him very much.
2. English is a difficult language to master! Maybe it’s right. I’ll tell something about me. My mother tongue is the Hungarian language. I live in Slovakia so I know the Slovak language. Because I went to school, I know English and German. So I’m a “master of languages”. But English is still difficult for me. And this semester I am studying the Arabic language as well.
3. Email is a great way to stay in touch with your family and friends. Not always! Email is a great thing, which is in these times very popular. We can contact our family and friends faster than by post, but sometimes we can receive dangerous email with a virus or impolite advertisement. This is a bad way how to use the Internet. We should take care what we open.
4. The Internet is very useful for all students. On the net they can find all kinds of information about the issues they study. They use an e-mail communication to get in touch with their parents, friends, classmates, and teachers. Moreover, they can create their schedule online, find the exam results, download study materials, or submit their assignments. In addition, some teachers are free to give their advice, or consultations via some of the communication tools, as Skype or g-talk. To sum up, because of all these advantages, I cannot imagine my studies without the Internet.
