Lesson topic and staging
This lesson focuses on cars. Students extract vocabulary about cars from the pictures and then check their vocabulary by filling in the gaps. Then students listen and read about rental cars, they practise pronunciation and extract vocabulary. Next, students complete the text about cars and driving with appropriate words or phrases. Students then focus on the types of cars and read a text that gives driving advice in an English-speaking country. Finally, students read about accidents and study vocabulary taken from the text and write an essay on one of the three topics connected with driving.
Objectives
By the end of the lesson, students should have:
- extracted specific information and language items from reading texts and a listening exercise
- extended their range of vocabulary related to cars
- extended their range of idiomatic expressions connected with cars and driving
- understood the meaning of the words from reading texts
